Kinda bad time lately... illness worse, I'm usually bedridden or housebound. It sucks. So that's why I'm not around here much. Lacking motivation.
For an extra crappy day, my favourite hen randomly died this morning.
It's so weird already, sitting in the garden but there's no massive fluffy orange bird sprinting over to me, clucking and jumping on my lap to be stroked.
No idea what caused it... one minute she was happily eating, then...
Amber whyyy ;__; You just turned 2 years old, you huge friendly pretty hen.
So um, yeah. Sadtimes. At least the other two seem fine. Trying to focus on that one good thing today. >.< If I can manage to force myself to draw anything this week, will have to do a portrait of her.
/ pointless depressing journal. Sorry, you might as well ignore it.
Guess I just like that there are other Chicken Crazies here who understand the love of these birds. Unlike my grandparents and most others who see them as brainless lumps of meat rather than beautiful animals that can make great pets.

Learning sculpture 1: Ignorant Newbie
For a long time I daydreamed about one day getting into sculpture and ceramic stuff. Admiring the potters' studios with all their handmade glazed bowls, wall decorations and patterned tiles... and rather envying the sculptors who were able to bring fantastical creatures to life in 3D, not be relegated to drawing them or writing about their supposed traits.
I was reluctant to ever step into this hobby though, due to lack of money and free time. One does not simply get a lump of clay and boom, you have finished products. There are many hours of careful sculpting, tools to get used to, techniques to learn, reproduction via moulds/casting if you
Tiny Requests
Sooo... been away for 99% of the year. Can't believe I only submitted one deviation. And missed the Equine Secret Santa too. Shameful! At least in 2019 I can start uploading lots of creature bases, items, backgrounds etc for the game (I started drawing the final bases recently). Right now it's still code-code-code and mostly placeholder scribbles, and some amusing stock photos for NPCs. Your eyes will be happier not seeing them...
Let's try to make up for it with a bit of last-minute fun. Throw a character at me and you may get a little thingy. Such as...
Last time I did a bunch of cheap scribble-commissions, half of them weren't paid for.
Shall we draw some Terrible Griffons?
It's my birthday. The local Redwings horse sanctuary is closed (boo) so I'm spending all afternoon working on game code, as usual. Enjoyable, but still... we need more fun... and if the Terrible Horse contest showed anything, bad art can be very fun. :la:
... OK, that's a poor example (you can do SO much worse! I believe in you!!) but hey, it was fun. And that's the point.
Anyway, you know what a griffon/fin/phon/blah is. Not that the results need to resemble one at all. Go go go!
I might give out a Core membership or two, if a drawing's quality is so 'exceptional' it really stands out (and makes me laugh).
edit: holy balls this journal C
Mixed colours: Winners
Update: contest is over! There were 32 entries, all of which were amazing and it's so hard to choose any favourites... :noes: The plan was to have only one winner, but I can't resist adding some more. So, here we go.
Cheetah-horse, Macaw-cheetah by DakyCat
It's a pretty simple cross after all - two quadrupedal mammals - yet really striking, cleanly drawn and posed, and a bonus 2-in-1 with that colourful cheetah, which distracts well from those spots and lines and stops the whole picture being repetitive to look around. Congratulations! I'll send your prize over soon.
The Mandarin Dragon would have been the winner, but the body shape seems

Thats sad. I live in a toan where we can't have pet chickens, but I have a rat and a dog. My rat is 2 hears old and thats about how long they last. My 11 year old miniature poodle Riley is staying around for a while.
