Yuh, just another mini animation... that was started sometime last year. ._.
Last night all I did was tidy it up and finish it off. Tired of the file sitting there, taunting me.

Always wanted to animate this character. His markings are a bit annoying, but hey.
The lines in the sky are (were) rings around that planet, if anyone wonders...

Chara and animation are mine. Photoshop CS3, 21 frames.
Please do not use this in any way. It was for personal practice - not for others' use.

That's incredible!  Wow!  The lighting is so mystical looking, and the level of detail is just unbelievable, not to mention that moving sky that gives a sense of(OH GOD I can't think of the word!  I'm sorry!) it's like when you look outside of a moving car and you see the road moving fast but the trees in the distance moving slow, that's what it is.  TuT

Sorry, I'm way too busy lately to do much animation, especially with complex movement like this one. ^^'  Thank you for the interest though!

I dropped in on this one while listening to Hurts - Somebody to Die For and I couldn't help but feel like that song really fit the animation

I'd do anything for the base ;-;
Reply
:iconbronzehalo:
BronzeHalo Featured By Owner May 11, 2015
Sorry, can't release the base. It's not even a base - the horse was drawn with his markings already, and a bit of shading was added on top. There is no easy way to recolour it, you'd have to do all new shading. ^^'

But I might do a "Your Horse Here" soon, with a much larger version and a new background. So maybe you could catch that, if you want to see a certain horse in this pose...

Okay. :) Thanks!

I really hope to! How much would it be?

:iconbronzehalo:

It would be an auction, starting at 500 points ($5 USD) and Autobuy would be $200 or something ridiculous like that? :XD: I really doubt anyone would pay that though.

With no idea how much interest there may be in it, or what an upper limit should be, I will leave it all up to the bidders to decide amongst themselves. ^^

I have gimp and annimation confuses me. do you have to re-colour every frame? surley the markings on each might be a bit of then? it confuzzles me but you seem to get it right ALL THE TIME. it kills me.

gimp and photoshop are different in the way that photoshop allows you to use key frames rather than layers to animate, so every key frame can have multiple layers.

in gimp however it's with layers. what i do is draw every frame, using multiple layers then merge them down.

haha comment stalking.

yessir. but no matter what you animate in it, it's a long process. animating is a very time consuming thing and takes a lot of practice and dedication.

I do adore this one c: I think possibly why so many people like this (even if you're not so fond) is that the movement of the head and the reach of the forelegs combined with the uphill slope really contribute to it looking the horse is putting in loads of effort. That and the underlighting, perfect movement of the mane and the STAR THEME THING are all awesome >3>

Thanks! :giggle: Although it's not quite realistic... the leg movements are in the wrong order, a horse doesn't run like that. But it looked better this way, so that's why I went along with it. xD

You're animating in Photoshop yes?
What format/file/blah do you export it as? I'm only able to do GIFs and they mess up the color quality. Yours looks so nice, that's why I wonder. ^^;

:iconbronzehalo:

I use Photoshop, yes, and always GIF. Indeed, the 256 colour limit can be a pain.

While drawing the animations, I often try hard to re-use similar/same colours. For example in "Common Unifly" I used a small, fixed palette. In this piece I was careful to always draw the horse's gold marks and glow with the same yellow-colour brush. Not a different kind of orange, or white. Every little bit of similar-colour helps, where possible. ;)

Then in the exporting stage, I make thorough use of the window's optimisation features. Dithering, and other options. They can really help preserve quality sometimes.

... though occasionally, no matter what I try, the quality ends up terrible. It's just a GIF thing.  :s  Unless you use a strict palette the whole time, some colours and quality will have to go.
